Glenda Rowett was born in 1952 at Bordertown in the Upper South East (Limestone Coast) of South Australia.
“I was raised on a farm 7Km out of Bordertown opposite a Wetlands and Game reserve called Poocha Swamp (Aboriginal meaning for ‘a place of good water’)
I feel very fortunate that I had the opportunity to have been bought up on a farm with all the freedom and space that I needed. I spent many hours riding our horses with my brother and three sisters at Poocha Swamp and the surrounding areas.
The beautiful Red Gums, wetlands and the farm that I was raised on, have been my inspiration to paint.
I started drawing from a very early age, particularly horses, which I still love. I moved to Adelaide when I was eighteen to do artwork for a printing agency.
I only stayed in the city for 10 months as I missed the country life, friends and family. I came back to Bordertown and married. We bought a block of land on the banks of Poocha wetlands, built a house and had three children.
I started painting in oils when I was twenty six. Most of my work over the years has been commission work, painting draught horse scenes from old black and white photos, local landscape, birds and animals.
I have successfully exhibited in many exhibitions and competitions over the years as well as doing solo exhibitions. Many paintings and prints have been sold throughout Australia and overseas. I have also ventured into other areas of painting which are more impressionistic and abstract. I paint mainly in oils and acrylic and a small amount in watercolor.”
